Frequently Asked Questions About Yoga

What You Always Wanted to Know About Yoga But Were Afraid to Ask
[Resources: Yoga Journal (Stephan Bodian) and Yoga for Rejuvenation (Nergis Dalal)]

1. Is Yoga some kind of religion?

No. There are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu Yogin.

2. Is it necessary to be a vegetarian to practice Yoga?

No.

3. How soon should I expect results?

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a more supple body, greater energy, freedom from disease, a calm and tranquil state of mind and less tension, you should see results within the first ten weeks, which will improve more and more as you continue in your practice. Rejuvenation will take a little longer and will need a steady and continuous practice.

4. Will Yoga help me lose or gain weight without dieting?

Yes, this is one of the wonderful effects of yoga. There are asanas (poses), pranaymas (breathing) and kriyas (cleansing and purification practices) which speed up metabolism. Obesity, cellulite, droopy flesh and fat that accumulates on the hips, buttocks and belly are all removed by a sensible practice of yoga.
